Spaces - Border Station

Location: Salt Lake City
Year: 1981
Label: Red Giant
Catalog Number: 81081

Style: Fusion, Jazz, Funk

Spaces dances on a line of fusion and jazz funk that can carry energy, translate pure musicianship, and dip its toes into prog rock cheese, all while making you wish you had long hair to twist and shake trying to keep up with the variety of tempo changes throughout.

Blending late 70s styles, the dynamic change of pacing and instrumentation of the members is the feature here. All seven members take and give space in a way that keeps things consistently interesting, leaving you waiting for what might happen next.

Saxophonist of Spaces said that those in the band referred to each other as “extended family” often sharing holiday meals together as well as bringing member’s children to rehearsals. Listening through Border Station you quickly feel a musical chemistry that extends far beyond the recording of this 1981 album.
