Steve Eaton - S/T

Location: Ogden/Idaho
Year: 1979
Label: Mountain Bluebird Records
Catalog Number: SE 46753

Style: AOR, Softrock

Steve Eaton’s self-titled album is his second commercial record and arguably his best. The 1979 release comfortably lands somewhere between popular wound licking tunes by Kenny Loggins and coastal cruisers by Ned Doheny. Eaton collaborates with a variety of notable session and studio musicians recording at several different studios in Southern California as well as at Mountain Meadows recording studios in Ogden, UT.

The album is complete with catchy choruses, Lee Sklar’s signature bass lines, and the warm soulful sounds of the Fender Rhodes piano and Hammond B3 organ. The second cut on the B-side, “Without You”, is undoubtedly the standout track. It’s what I wished the rest of Eaton’s music sounded like. A solid sophomore album, well worth the sticker price.
