Marvin Payne’s records are omnipresent. Walk into any thrift store in Utah and it’s very likely you’ll find at least one of his albums waiting for you. At the Gate however is an exception, and rarely pops up. 

Marvin’s music is fairly straight forward folk music with religious soft rock leanings. This album predates all of that, and dives into some more eccentric, loner folk territory.

It’s interesting to hear him perform here on his first album. Like most artist’s initial release, it’s more raw and troubled. Marvin hadn’t yet found the voice he would use throughout his later albums. This makes for a unique and captivating entry.

Keep any eye out for this one, cause it may surprise you.
