James Romero y Los Amigos - Variedad Uno

Location: West Jordan
Year: 1970’s
Label: Recordings/SCP
Catalog Number: 33355

Style: Latin, Garage Rock, Psych

A regular presence in the thrift stores and discount vinyl bins throughout the Wasatch Front, this local family band brought the emerging sounds of Texas-based Latin music to the west side of Salt Lake City.

Inspired by popular Tejano music of the 1960s-1970s, Romero and his band performed a selection of covers (Santana’s

”Evil Ways” and Chuck Berry’s “Johnny B. Goode”), modern rancheras and early Latin soul in the spirit of Al Hurricane, Sunny Ozuna and Tiny Morrie.

The band self-released two LPs in the 1970s, each featuring the band’s West Jordan home address as the only contact. James Romero y Los Amigos still live and perform in Utah.
